So spring/summer have arrived, though quite late and mostly rain filled.
I rolled the bike out of my landlords garage tried to get her going and no dice. I think the carbs need another cleaning, despite me having them drip all winter long.Well this is what it looked like coming out of the shed for the first time:
I forgot how hideous and unnecessarily huge that seat is! So I then chose to take it off.
Looking better but I wanted to check out what it looks like without the fender and huge taillight. (why is every so goddamn oversized??)
Better I think. I've also found some new inspiration from the fellas at Maccomotors!
Slightly different tank, but I'm digging what they did with the seat as well as the Metzler Lasertec tires.
Check them and the build out at:

And I leave this post with this:
Anybody know the make of the helmet?
Oh and last week I removed the taillight, blinkers & rear fender.
Pictures coming soon

ReplyDeleteGood to see you're still around too! :)
ReplyDeleteThose bikes from Maccomotors look great.
Here's a blog from a spanish builder: http://tarmaccustommotorcycles.blogspot.pt/
They usually use bratstyle seats (I think that's the correct name) which are (in my opinion) the best looking seats (but probably not the most comfortable)
I love what they did to a Goldwing:
(http://tarmaccustommotorcycles.blogspot.pt/search/label/Goldwing). Not so much what they did to some others, like the Harley:

I also found a forum from Kawa owners:

Take care!
I forgot two things:
ReplyDelete1) Websites where you can find the basis on building a cafe racer:
http://classicmotorcycles.about.com/od/historicaldevelopment/a/How-To-Build-A-Caf-E-Racer.htm
http://www.instructables.com/id/Building-a-Budget-Cafe-Racer/?ALLSTEPS
2) A great forum: http://www.dotheton.com/forum/index.php?board=6.0
You can take a look at this topic, that shows how hard it is to buils a good bike:

I'm currently turning my spectre 550 into a cafe racer too! I'm interested to see what will become of yours once you're done.
ReplyDeleteHello, how odd the build? I have an 82’ Spectre and am super interested in seeing your final outcome. Cheers

ReplyDeleteHello, how’s the bike?! I have an 82, and came across this blog. Hope to hear back!
ReplyDelete7 years later I found this blog still on my list of motorcycle blogs... What happened to that bike?
